I’m convinced that Flavio’s sharpened knife is poised over Iain Dowie’s back...and with successive games now coming up against two of the only three teams so far showing any signs of having the ability to escape the Championship pack, it might not be long before Dowie is doing a Kenneth Williams...infamy, infamy – they’ve all got it in for me...
So given owner and manager’s well publicised pre-season spat, and the fact that we’re seemingly linked with a new man at the helm every time we concede a goal or misplace a pass, you may say my forecast is hardly ‘news’. However, I’d like to offer fresh evidence.
Many have commented on the official website’s increasing similarity to Pravda in terms of the bare-faced propaganda that makes up its output. Well, check out the match report on the Swansea game. Normally such an away point would be described by official sources as “hard-earned”, the lads would have “battled manfully”, and at the final whistle “got what they richly deserved”.
None of that. Instead we get:
“QPR were fortunate to come away with a point against an imperious Swansea”
“The hosts dominated throughout and were unlucky not to score”
“Rangers somehow...escaped...with a plucky point”
That last one is the report’s sign off...and the use of the word ‘plucky’ is the only nod to the standard language normally peddled out on offish sites for such results.
So, Pravda says we’re rubbish, QED the owners think we’re rubbish. And this mob won’t settle for rubbish. They’ll get this pesky last Grand Prix out of the way, then get to work...
Gigi De Canio makes a welcome return, or El Tel? Sublime or ridiculous? I can hardly wait...
