Pity about ‘Stretch Armstrong’ – I liked him.

Neil poached him from Bury after leaving there for around £100,000 and now he’s left us for Reading for at least £500,000, possibly more later, so I know there’ll be so-called wiser heads than mine calling this little transaction ‘a good bit of business’ – God how that phrase should strike fear into the heart of every supporter.

But I still liked him. I like the never-say-die work horses with the right attitude and I happen to think every promotion contending side contains at least one Chris Armstrong. I had expected him to fade away during the Prem campaign but he did better than everyone expected.

I can’t really accuse the club of leaving us short in this position since we’ve got cover in abundance at left back so I can see the common sense. Still, it’s a pity when an honest grafter leaves. He’ll be replaced by a better class of player so I’m told – at least that’s the theory.
