celeb XIs
great for a bit of one-upmanship, especially when your team is crap, we all like to boast about our team’s celebrity fans. often, how cool that celeb is may be almost incidental – particularly for clubs outside of the supposedly glamorous big boys, the fact that any celebrity bothers not only to support your team, but to admit to it in public, is cause enough for celebration
so goalfood is now on a mission to compile the definitive list of celeb fans. however there are certain criteria. regular attendance at games is not essential, but recorded public utterances of support are. no guess work along the lines of “in that sitcom they always had a poster of team x in the kitchen, so therefore the lead actor must be a life long fan”. it’s probably just a misguided props guy winning a bet. and no supposition (“he’s from my town therefore he must support…”) or unsubstantiated rumour (“my mate’s uncle says…”)
we’re looking for the genuine article. and much as we invite our contributors to put forward anyone who they deem worthy of the epithet ‘celebrity’, when it comes to choosing the best team at the end of our quest, ‘a’ listers will score the most points, and our own utterly subjective views on who is cool will also come into play. so, luton fans, we’re delighted he’s helped to save your club…but don’t expect nick owen to push you into the upper echelons of goalfood’s celeb XIs league table…
